Car manufacturer Volkswagen recently unveiled the 2017 Tiguan at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new Tiguan is the company's first SUV that is based on the new MQB platform.

According to Car Scoops, the 2017 Tiguan is a second generation car and will be released in a very competitive compact SUV market. The car will go head to head and has a long list of rival that includes the Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

The new Tiguan is lighter, have more room space and a sharper more mature appearance both on its interior and exterior.

The 2017 Tiguan is 100 pounds lighter compared to the current model. The new Tiguan is also 60mm longer, 30mm wider and 33mm lower. The new model also has a 77mm extended wheelbase.

Volkswagen said that the increase of the cars size means that its interior is improved. Additionally, the rear seat is asymmetrically split which can be adjusted longitudinally. The company added that in the fall of 2016 it will release a newer version of the Tiguan with longer wheelbase. The car will be released in the United States and China and is rumored to have a seating capacity for seven.

According to Drive, Volkswagen has already confirmed that the new Tiguan will be released in Europe with eight different engine variations. Four of these are TSI petrols with 123 horsepower, 148 horsepower, 178 horsepower and 217 horsepower. The last four are TDI diesels with 113 horsepower, 148 horsepower, 187 horsepower and 237 horsepower.

The 2017 Tiguan will be available in both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. Volkswagen has yet to reveal the cars official price.
