Tech giant Apple is once again knocking on the door its Android rival after the former released a new app called Move to iOS. The app can be downloaded on Google Play Store and supports Android devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
According to Engadget, the Move to iOS app transfers messages, contacts, images, calendar entries, mail accounts and other information from an Android device to a compatible Apple device. In order to do this, the supported iPhone or iPad will create an ad-hoc connection to connect with the Android device. Once the connection is established, the app will begin copying the all the information the user decides to transfer.
Move to iOS' official Play Store entry reads, "Everything about iOS is designed to be easy. That includes switching to it. With just a few steps, you can migrate your content automatically and surely from your Android device with the Move to iOS app."
While the app has some interesting features, it was not welcomed by most Android users. The apps has 1.8 star ratings in Play Store. As of this writing, the app received 1,953 1-star rating and only 472 5-star rating.
Many reviewers cited the apps' inability to move apps that are installed on the device. While the app does allow the transfer of mail accounts, bookmarks, photos, contacts and many more, these feature are not that big of a deal to convince Android users into switching to iOS.
Many comments on Move to iOS' Play Store entry are convinced that the app is a cheap trick from Apple in order to cut down the significant lead of the Android operating system.
