However, she told the host her talent has been to look after people and that nursing was her genuine talent and wanted to people to know she was authentic.

The Miss Colorado contestant came on stage dressed in a nurses outfit with a stethoscope around her neck to relate the story of an Alzheimer's patient she treated, who reminded her why she chose to do nursing, during the talent competition which took place on the second night of the preliminary rounds of the Miss America pageant.

Johnson further elaborated to DeGeneres that to her it was about highlighting the contribution of nurses in general  and that she wanted to give nurses  "that voice and recognition of somebody going up there and just being a little bit different and unique."

While many viewers had been touched by Johnson's words, co-hosts of "The View" Joy Behar and Michelle Collins took to mocking the contestant 's speech which led to an outpouring of support for Johnson from nurses everywhere who demanded an apology from the co-hosts and took their cause online under the hashtag  #NursesUnite which began trending.

Meanwhile, owing to the behavior of ABC's hosts two advertisers have pulled out their campaigns from the show, according to Daily News.

The announcement of the national advertisers  Eggland's Best and Johnson &Johnson came soon after the on-camera jokes about Johnson's monologue.

While Johnson did not win the pageant she walked away with the  second runner up title while Miss Georgia Betty Cantrell  took home the crown for the new Miss America.
