It appears that PlayStation is also jumping on the backwards compatibility bandwagon due to the success exhibited by the Xbox One. A recently leaked listing from the Pan European Game Information reveal that three PlayStation 2 classic tittles are headed for a PlayStation 4 release.
According to Slash Gear, the PEGI listing shows a PlayStation 4 rating for the following PlayStation 2 games; "Twisted Metal: Black," "Ape Escape 2" and "Dark Chronicle" known in the United States as "Dark Cloud 2."
The inclusion of the three games into PEGI's ratings list does not mean that they will be officially released. However, many gamers speculate that the games' inclusion mean that they needed the ratings before they will be released on the PlayStation Now store.
The three games are most likely scheduled for a digital-only release. If these rumors are true, it could jump start Sony's backward compatibility effort for the PlayStation 4.
According to Gematsu, the leak surfaced just hours before Sony started its 2015 SCEJA conference in Japan. The report added that Sony might be up to something and the leak is more than just a coincidence.
Sony president for worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida previously said that Sony is not completely ditching the idea of backwards compatibility for the PlayStation 4. Yoshida added that the feat is extremely hard to be accomplished and Sony could have already done that if it is only as easy as it sounds.
Backwards compatibility in console is the feature that allow gamers to play old video game titles in new generation consoles. Xbox One currently support this feature.
