"The Flash" season 2 will reveal a huge role for Iris West in team Flash, as well as the rumored identity of the show's new villain Zoom.
Iris West (Candice Patton) has been chasing leads on The Flash (Grant Gustin) during the events of season 1, leading to the conclusion that Scarlet Speedster is actually his best friend Barry Allen and eventually becoming an unlikely ally in the show. Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg told MTV News that Iris West will have a huge role in season 2 as she will be responsible for bringing back Team Flash in the show.
Kreisberg admitted that Iris West was kept in the dark for too long in season 1, but after discovering who The Flash really is, she is now considered a member of the team and her urgency to help everyone in Central City could be huge factor in season 2.
Several rumors and speculations hinted that Iris West will act as a leader within the team as Barry Allen in show will go solo on his crime fighting crusade because of his fear of losing everyone that he loves. Patton immediately cleared out the rumors and stated that Iris is not going to be the leader of the team, but she will play an intriguing role within the group. Kreisberg added that season 2 will also explore more of Iris' relationship with her father Joe West ( Jesse L. Martin), dealing with the aftermath of Eddie Thawne's death (Rick Cosnett) in season 1, Design&Trend reported.
"The Flash" season 2 will take place six months after Barry stopped the singularity for destroying Central City during season 1, as well as exploring other alternate worlds.
In othe news, another character has been hinted to be the identity of season 2's new antagonist Zoom (Tony Todd).
Zoom in season 2 will use several super powered characters such as Atom Smasher (Adam "Edge" Copeland) to kill The Flash, promising them to take them back from their world. Zoom is described as a speed demon as co-showrunner Greg Berlanti stated that he will be show's version of "Darth Vader" in a way that two people will play him as Todd will provide the voice, while another person will do his actions.
Three characters have already been rumored to be Zoom's possible identity such as Future Barry Allen, Edward Clarss/ The Rival and Eddie Thawne.
However, YouTube channel Emergency Awesome speculated that Zoom in the show could be an evil version of Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) due to the fact that Wally will be based on the New 52 version and that Zoom is played by an African American actor. Emergency Awesome added that season 2 will likely follow Geoff Johns work on The Flash in the New 52 comics.
Wall West will be introduced in season 2 as a resident earth 2 and possibly Joe's son and Iris' younger brother. Kreisberg stated that Wally West will have the same background as Roy Harper/Arsenal (Colton Haynes) and will eventually take on the Kid Flash identity within season 2.
"The Flash" season 2 will premiere on October 7 on the CW Network.
