Bieber, 21, pleaded his 67.6 million followers to spread forgiveness and peace.

"Let's all join the UN today and spread peace together through forgiveness. #ForgiveForPeace," tweeted Bieber on Sept.21.

DeGeneres implored her 47.7 million followers to support peace forever.

"Today is an International Day of Peace. I'm going to celebrate tomorrow too. And the next day. And the next... #ForgiveForPeace wrote," DeGeneres on Sept.21.

In commemoration of the movement, Deepak Chopra led a guided meditation in New York City's Central Park on Monday morning. During the meditation, he told the participants to forgive and see the phenomenal outcome.

"Every decision I make is a choice between a grievance and a miracle," he said. "We are gathered here this morning to let go of all grievances, all resentment, all anger, all hostility so that we may heal and be healed. Forgiveness heals because it is the opposite of inflammation."

Cool J posted a clip on Instagram of himself holding up a paper with the word "HATE" written on it, and then tearing that paper into pieces and throwing them away.

Exoneration is one of the key fundamentals for peace. When those who have been ill-treated forgive, and when those who have done wrong ask for exoneration, the prospect for peace is born.

The General Assembly established the International Day of Peace in 1981 and was observed for the first time in September 1982.

The campaign is based on the principle that "forgiveness is the first step on the path towards peace."

According to the campaign's official website Ange Kagame the daughter of Paul Kagame, the President of Rwanda, is the spokesperson for the "Forgive For Peace" campaign.

Ange serves as an advocate and an instance of the power and the prospect that stems from forgiveness as she has seen her country forgive after the 1994 genocide. 'Forgive for Peace' will ignite the change necessary to shape a better world.
