The Dallas Cowboys are currently hurting with the loss of their a handful of their key players. Dez Bryant and Randy Gregory are both out due to injury while Greg Hardy won't be playing for the next couple games. What stings the most for the Cowboys however, is the loss of their star quarterback Tony Romo. Without him, the Cowboys are searching for answers. One of them, may be acquiring Free Agent QB Matt Flynn.

The rumors all started when Ed Werder of ESPN tweeted that "#NFL veteran QBS Matt Flynn and Christian Ponder among those scheduled for #Cowboys tryouts".

Matt Flynn is certainly a worthy option for the Cowboys. Flynn has a career passer rating of 85.9 over 357 attempts, which would put him at about 20th best in the 2014 NFL season.

Without Flynn, the Cowboys are currently being led by Brandon Weeden. Weeden is certainly a servicable quarterback who the Cowboys will have to make do with for the time being, as Romo is expected to be out about half the season with his injured clavicle.

While Flynn could be of great help for the Cowboys, don't expect him to be the difference maker in the season. There's a reason why quarterbacks aren't usually acquired midseason, and that's because it takes about 8 to 10 weeks to get them acclimated with the game plan the coach usually has in place. It would be difficult for the Cowboys to teach Flynn their sets only to have Romo return when Flynn eventually masters it.

Weeden will need some help for the time being however, and Flynn could prove to be a servicable back up for the Cowboys.
