Tisha Campbell-Martin released on Sept. 21, Monday, an influential new music video for her solo single "Steel Here" about an unpleasant incident from her past.


The 46-year-old singer, who has been involved in the showbiz since her teen years recently admitted that she was sexually assaulted when she was three years old, Hollywood life reported.

In an appearance on the talk show "The Daily Helpline" in August, Campbell-Martin also revealed that she was physically abused in her childhood.

The former co-star of sitcom "Martin" opened up about the painful incident from her past and also said that she received an apology letter from her rapist, The Root reported. 

In a series of tweets, Campbell-Martin explained some of the metaphors and imagery used in the video, writing that the video represents "a purging of anger, grudge, pain, low self -esteem, self-deprecation or any negative emotion."

"The writing on my body and the man writing the letter reps the actual words of an apology letter I recently received..." tweeted Campbell-Martin. 

"From the person who violated me when I was 3 yrs old. By blessing me w the apology letter he allotted me the ability..." tweeted Campbell-Martin.

In the video, Campbell-Martin is seen in both a black and white dresses with butterflies sitting on her visage. She is also wearing an excerpt of the letter her attacker sent her saying, "Dear Beloved Tisha, This apology has been in my heart and on my mind for decades. For decades, there has been a grieving pain within me coupled with an unending shame for my past behavior." 

In 1996, Campbell-Martin filed a court case against her Martin co-star Martin Lawrence and the show's producers for physical and verbal assaults. HBO Studios somehow settled the case with Campbell so that the show's last season could be concluded.

The actress did return to the "Martin" set to film the last three episodes of the show's last season under the condition that she would not appear in any scenes with Lawrence. 

Campbell-Martin later became a member of the American Film Institute and the Writer's Boot Camp. She also produced the film short "A Luv. The film won many awards, including the Audience Choice Award at the Black Hollywood Film Festival.

The "Martin" actress starred in Mindless Behavior's music video "Hello." In the video, she starred as Prodigy's mother. In 2015, Campbell-Martin will appear in the role of Damona, the hospital receptionist in the new ABC medical comedy "Dr Ken," starring Ken Jeong, Suzy Nakamura, Albert Tsai, Dave Foley, Jonathan Slavin and Krista Marie Yu for the 2015-16 Fall Season.

Campbell-Martin is married to actor and real estate developer Duane Martin and has two sons: Xen and Ezekiel Czar.
