Google will unveil the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P next week and will likely make the devices available shortly but the Motorola Nexus 6 remains a compelling buy. More so with the news reports that say the 2014 vanilla Android flagship will get an OS bump up soon and its sticker price is heading further downward in the days ahead.
Being a Google hero phone, the Nexus 6 is only expected to get the latest Android ahead of the pack and that surely will happen if a new report from Mobile Syrup is to be believed. According to the tech blog site, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is coming to the Nexus 5 and 6 even before users get their hands on the Nexus 5X and 6P.
The new Android rollout for the aging Nexus handsets is said to begin October 4 or days ahead of the supposed actual release date for the Nexus 2015 on October 13. It was unclear if Google is planning to provide the update simultaneously - meaning Nexus 5 and 6 owners around the world will get the new operating system at the same time - but the sure thing is Canadian Nexus smartphone users will get a bite of the Marshmallow first.
Identified as the lucky ones are Nexus 5 and 6 users subscribed to Canadian telco Telus, the report added. While the report did not mention of any other Android 6.0 recipients it should be safe to assume that Nexus 5 and 6 users elsewhere will experience Marshmallow without much delay, likely a day or two following the OS debut in Canada.
With the new Android soon powering the Nexus 6, fans of Google's hero phone have more reasons to skip the 2015 versions and realize significant savings as the 2014 model is only expected to see tempting discounts.
Earlier, Best Buy dangled the Motorola phone with lower price while eBay countered with an aggressive offer - $300 for the 32GB variant. But these promos came in limited time and supplies. Good thing Amazon made the game more interesting - by pushing out the 32GB Nexus 6 for only $350 and the 64GB edition at $400. It appears that the Nexus price shave off from the online retail giant is permanent.
But it doesn't mean that the already low price for the Nexus 6 will stay the same. The best is the sticker price will be further reduced right after the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P unveiling. And sellers will only make the Nexus 6 more tempting as they jostle for consumers' attention in time for Black Friday and the ensuing Christmas rush.
So this period of the year is the best time to grab the Motorola Nexus 6. It will soon rock Android 6.0 Marshmallow and trajectory of the asking price is sure to head south in the days and weeks following the Google Nexus 2015 release date.
