During this week's Slow Food Festival and "Slow Food Times" summit forum hosted by Beijing Design Week, delegates from across the world were encouraged to value sustainable production, as well as diverse cooking methods and high-quality ingredients.
International organization Slow Food aims to advance these advocacies by following the principles of its slogan: "good, clean, and fair."
The non-profit group, which was established in Italy in 1986, was brought to the country this year as it opened the branch Slow Food Greater China with Qiao Ling as the president.
In the first discussion on Wednesday, Qiao remarked that "China is a country full of unique delicacies."
"From north to south and east to west, all year round, China is able to contribute a great amount of both tradition and creativity in the process of globalization which surrounds food culture. Slow Food will be able to protect the diversity in our gourmet," she poised.
Furthermore, Qiao said that after three decades of rapid development, "China is gradually entering a new phase where [Slow Food] can focus on, so now is the perfect time for this organization's introduction."
Asked about her thoughts on working with the global organization, she quipped, "I believe this is a very joyful task. It is a task which requires a lot of responsibility, but there is also a lot of happiness in the work that we do. I hope that anyone interested in this movement will join us!"
Slow Food China hosted two forums where delegates discussed their respective achievements and goals. Chinese panelists introduced ways on how slow food can be incorporated with the conventional Chinese culture.
