Swiss smartphone manufacturer Silent Circle recently unveiled the Blackphone 2. The device promises top of the line security and runs on the Android platform.

Silent Circle CEO Bill Conner said that the Blackphone 2 is aimed for a specific segment of the market that demands utmost security. These users range from government employees to top-level corporate people as well as celebrities and public figures concerned that their calls and mobile activities are being monitored. Conner added that the phone has a built-in privacy control as well as powerful encryption methods.

According to Fast Company, the Blackphone 2 runs on a heavily modified version of Android Lollipop called SecureOS. The operating system was designed by various Android users who want puts privacy on top of their priority list.

The Blackphone 2 is not a pushover in terms of specs as well. The device sports a 5.5-inch full HD display with a 2560 x1440 resolution. It has Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset that includes an octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz and an Adreno 405 graphics processing unit. The smartphone has 3GB of internal memory and 32GB of storage space which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD.

The Blackphone 2 has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity with LTE support. It has a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and a 5-megapixel front facing camera. The 3060mAh battery pack supports Qualcomm Quick Charge.

Aside from the impressive specs list, it is in the security aspect that the Blackphone 2 outshines any smartphone currently out in the market. Silent Circle partnered with Qualcomm in order to develop a chip that enables user to create secured partition called Spaces, according to Wired. Each partitioned Space has its own privacy settings, app permission settings and allocation settings. This feature allow users to keep work and personal information separated from each other.

Other security feature includes randomized keypad when unlocking the phone and the ability to completely wipe the phone remotely.
