Yesterday a post to an online site caused an uproar when it showed over 50 pictures of women secretly photographed while using a bathroom.

Analysis of the photos revealed that the bathroom was located in Xiamen university. The post was made on Jan. 1 to one of China's widely popular Tianya Internet forums by a person named "X" claiming that the post was made out of concern for the privacy and well-being of his female compatriots.

To prove the veracity of the post, over 50 photos were included as evidence. The photos showed women in a bathroom stall with the majority of shots looking down on the back of women using the toilet. Some of the photos used a mosaic to hide certain details while other photos did not use a mosaic. Each photo was labelled in English, "This series was shooted in a university in Xiame, Fujian Province." Some photos included descriptions using crude remarks or obscene language.

Apparently the 50 photos included in the post were only part of a larger set and that the secret recording of women is an ongoing activity available for viewing online or for download. According to reports, the photos were not only of women in bathroom stalls but also included shots of women in the shower, at the sinks and even shots of women entering and leaving the bathroom.

As the photos made the rounds on the Internet, people began to recognize information from the photos and piece together the available evidence. Eventually the location of the bathroom was determined to be the third floor public bathroom of the Jiageng No.5 building on the Xiamen University campus.

The person who took the photos remains unknown but authorities are investigating the incident, which has become a cause for much concern to Xiamen University's female student population. One freshman student said she heard of men standing outside and taking photos of women in showers but this is the first time she's heard about taking pictures of women inside a bathroom. "I never thought someone would do such a disgusting thing," she said.
