Director Guillermo del Toro has expressed his interest on including "Game of Thrones" actress Maisie Williams as a cast member of his upcoming sci-fi film "Pacific Rim: Maelstorm."
Director del Toro tweeted a status on his official Twitter account on Oct. 3. The filmmaker said that he had eaten lunch with Williams on Oct. 2 and he noted that was remarkable. He also mentioned that the "Game of Thrones" actress would get a Jaeger once the "Pacific Rim" sequel has been greenlit. Overall, the post got more than 2,000 re-tweets and more than 3,000 favorites.
Williams had used her abilities to fight monsters in Westeros, as per Cinema Blend. The publication added that being a young girl, along with a smaller stature, set some boundaries on the actress. However, a super Jaeger will turn Williams as an invincible cast in del Toro's film.
According to Coming Soon, "Pacific Rim: Maelstorm" had been held by Universal Studios and Legendary; however, this did not halt del Toro from "fan-casting" the film.
Aside from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss' television series "Game of Thrones," Williams is also known for her roles in Niall Heery's comedy film "Gold" and Carol Morley's mystery drama "The Falling." The actress is also set to appear in Kate Maberly's action romance film "The Forest of Hands and Teeth," Bill Purple's drama "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea," and Peter Hutchings drama film "Arrivals."
Meanwhile, aside from "Pacific Rim: Maelstorm," del Toro is also set to helm the animated fantasy film "Pinocchio," action adventure "Hellboy 3," and the forthcoming horror film "Crimson Peak."
Set a few years following the events in 2013's "Pacific Rim," del Toro's "Pacific Rim : Maelstorm" will center on Kaiju monsters that rise from a gateway at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, and Rinko Kikuchi were reported to reprise their roles.
Along with del Toro set to helm the film, Travis Beacham and Zak Penn are also on board to pen the film script. The film will be produced by Callum Grreene, Jon Jashni, Mary Parent, Jillian Share, and Thomas Tull, among others.
Since "Pacific Rim: Maelstorm" is in its early phase of development, exact details on the plot, additional characters, and cast members are yet to be revealed.
Directed by del Toro, "Pacific Rim: Maelstorm" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Aug. 4, 2017 while "Crimson Peak" hits theaters on Oct. 16.
