The star of "Elizabeth" Cate Blanchett may seem old fashioned, especially having shared her take on the "selfie culture" which has engulfed her peers, declaring that social networking often leads to "jealousy and rivalry."

The Oscar winner who openly voiced her opinions on the phenomenon, said  she does not participate in social media, during a Yahoo Style interview.  "It's pathetic, the whole thing about people worrying about what other people are going to think," Blanchett said.

With personalities such as Kim Kardashian paving the way for "selfie" trends, Blanchett finds it hard to understand why anyone would spend time engaging others through such a medium.The "Cinderella" actress said she cannot handle the obsession by some actors.

During the interview, the "Blue Jasmine" actress did also talk about the pros of online interaction, admitting that social media does provide good entertainment and has the potential to foster online communities.

 Blanchett remarked that it is the subversive nature of social media that has concerned her, adding  its tendency to display a disruptive role in creating sides and dividing people, leaving room for jealousy and rivalry to settle in is what the actress says, she would warn her children about.

Meanwhile, Blanchett will next be see onscreen beside Hollywood icon Robert Redford in "Truth" and according to People, learning from her co-star during the production of the film has been one of the highlights of her career.

During a recent industry screening of the film Blanchett told the publication, that one thing she would often tease Redford about would be his choice of accessories.

"Oh, the headbands have got to go, Bob," Blanchett jokingly said of her co-star of whom she raved referring to "The Way We Were" actor as being passionate about his craft and respectful of the film's director James Vanderbilt.

 "Truth" is set to hit theaters on Oct 16.
