"Fast and Furious" actor Vin Diesel has revealed the one who will sit on the director's chair for the upcoming action thriller film "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage."

In his interview with io9 to promote Breck Eisner's forthcoming action fantasy adventure film "The Last Witch Hunter," Diesel said "Disturbia" filmmaker D.J. Caruso was going to direct the upcoming "xXx" project. The actor also said he was "excited as hell" about "xXx" and he raised a big question on which between the "xXx" film or the "Furious 8" would race to production first.

Aside from his 2007 mystery thriller film "Disturbia," Caruso is known for his works, includingthr crime thriller film "Taking Lives," action thriller "Eagle Eye," and action sci-fi "I Am Number Four." Aside from "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage," the director is set to helm the horror thriller "Selling Time" and is rumored to direct "G.I. Joe 3."

According to Cinema Blend, "Furious 8" could go first in the production race. The publication mentioned that since its predecessor, James Wan's "Furious 7," has grossed $1.5 billion at the box office, Universal would be inclined to work out its sequel as fast as possible. Aside from it already has a schedule release date, "Straight Outta Compton" director F. Gary Gray is in talks to helm the film.

With Caruso set to helm the film, along with John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris, "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" seems to be shaping up. Exact details on the plot, additional characters, and cast are yet to be revealed.

"Furious 8" is slated to premiere in theaters on Apr. 14, 2017 while the release date for Caruso's "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" is yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, Eisner's "The Last Witch Hunter" hits theaters on Oct. 23, 2015.
