"The Vampire Diaries" alum Nina Dobrev recently talked about what it was like playing Elena Gilbert for the past six years on the hit The CW show.

During her discussion with Interview magazine, the 26-year-old actress revealed that playing the role of Elena easily became the most comfortable for her.

"That's definitely the most comfortable I've been in a role," she told the publication.

Meanwhile, Dobrev revealed that deciding on exiting the series was very challenging for her, especially since she's become close to all of her cast members.

However, the actress clarified that she already planned on leaving the show just after six seasons. Still, this didn't make leaving "The Vampire Diaries" easy for her.

"I made the difficult decision last season to leave. I had decided years before that I'd go the run of my contract and I wouldn't extend, but it was a surprise for everyone else that didn't know that. I always knew that I'd signed up for a certain amount of time and I fulfilled it. I had a great experience, but everything has to come to an end and this was my time. It's like high school, you do four years and then you move onto college," she said.

In other news, Dobrev also spoke with Entertainment Weekly to debunk rumors that there is still a chance for her to reprise her role on "The Vampire Diaries."

The actress said that that "ship has sailed," but she will continue to watch her co-stars this season.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
