"Gone with the Bullets" director Jiang Wen hired Academy Award-winning film sound professionals Michael Minkler and Eugene Geaty for the Chinese movie's New York post-production, China.org.cn reported.
Minkler won an Academy Award for sound mixing three times for Ridley Scott's "Black Hawk Down," Rob Marshall's "Chicago" and Bill Condon's "Dreamgirls."
On the other hand, sound designer Gearty won an Oscar for Best Sound Editing for his work on "Hugo," which starred Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfiled and Chloe Grace Moretz and was directed by Martin Scorsese.
It was Scorsese who introduced his "Hugo" 3D team to Jiang and helped him find the post-production team for the film "Gone with the Bullets," which is based on a true story set in Shanghai in the 1920s.
Jiang himself stars in the film as Ma Zouri, opposite Ge You as Xiang Feitian; they are the main characters who established a notorious beauty pageant called the Flowers Competition, which was unexpectedly won by a character named Wanyan Ying played by Shu Qi.
In 2010, Jiang's "Let the Bullets Fly" became one of the highest grossing movies ever in China, earning 659 million yuan ($107.2 million).
Recently, while working in the United States for more than two months, Jiang delivered a speech in front of about 700 students at the Harrison Auditorium at the University of Pennsylvania Museum, The Daily Pennsylvanian reported.
"I never change my own filming style. It is so much alike to my personality," said the director, adding that he makes films to forget.
For Jiang, the Chinese Cultural Revolution is similar to "the relationship between a rock star and his fans," referring to Chairman Mao Zedong's followers.
On the other hand, Jiang said it is not easy to "accurately represent the most important themes, including revolution and sex, through the medium of film."
"Gone with the Bullets" will hit theaters in China on Dec. 18.
