According to a report pointed out by IGN, "DOTA 2" has recently received a mysterious update file. Although it is an evident factor that "DOTA 2" receives regular updates, this time, the update seemed to be suspicious. Users have received a text file saved in the name of "hl3.txt." Now nobody is sure if the hl3 mentioned in the file actually stands for "Half Life 3." Also, the file contains various references such as squads, VR technology, VY movement and Chaperone.

Additionally, there is also mention of ziplines and Combine pulse ceiling Turret which might mean to say that game "Half Life" may contain "The Combine" in its plot. In spite all rumors, there is no necessary evident to support the reason as to why this document was actually uploaded.

Players and lovers of "Half Life" game have come up with various versions. One reason could be that the company wanted to create an awareness that the game is down the line and might get released soon. Another group claims that this file is just an inside joke and was aimed to mock players who are eagerly waiting for "Half Life 3" release.

Yet another explanation as pointed out by VG24/7 is that the team might have accidentally uploaded the file while the game is still under its development stage. This is an indication that the game still holds hopes to see limelight.

As reported earlier, "Half Life 3" might be release by late of 2017 or early 2018; however, there is no official statement or explanation to clarify why the file was uploaded.
