Tech giant Google is handing out invites for the Google Project Fi mobile service. The promo is only good for 24 hours and marks the official release of the LG Nexus 5X.
Anyone interested to take part in the Project Fi promotion can simply sign up on its official website. Project Fi is a cellular service launched by Google in October. It uses the network infrastructure of Sprint and T-Mobile. The service also uses Wi-Fi connections to make and receive calls, or whichever signal works best.
According to The Verge, the new LG Nexus 5X supports the Project Fi MVNO service. This is a great way for Google to advertise not only its flagship device but also its fledgling cellular service Project Fi.
Project Fi service currently starts at $20 per month for voice and text services. The service charges its users $10 for each gigabyte of cellular data they consume each month. One interesting feature about Project Fi's data billing scheme is that it only charges customers with the amount of data they consume and credits back any unused portion.
This day also marks the official release of the LG Nexus 5X. The smartphone will be available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Japan, India and South Korea. The price of the handset will vary depending on the region. In the US market, it will fetch a price tag of $379. LG promised that the handset will be available in other regions within the succeeding weeks.
Expectation for the LG Nexus 5X is high. The Google flagship device sports a Snapdragon 808 processor, 13-megapixel camera and a fingerprint scanner.
