HTC One A9 launches in a special Unlocked Edition, according to an official announcement livestreamed  from New York on Oct. 20. The special edition allows users to unlock the handset's bootloader and install their preferred ROMs.

According to Phone Arena, HTC One A9 allows users to "break away from typical wireless restrictions." The unlockable bootloader, for instance, enables users to access other software options and customize ROMs. Unlike other smartphones, this will not void the user's warranty, HTC USA executive Jason Mackenzie said in the livestream.

The Taiwanese smartphone company also promised that bloatware will be minimal. The absence of unnecessary preloaded software will give users the freedom to manipulate the handset how ever they like.

Thus, tech enthusiasts, especially those who like to jail-break their phones, will not have difficulty customizing their handset. However, HTC did not specify which software is not installed.

In addition, HTC One A9 is SIM-free and is not bundled with a particular mobile carrier. Users can choose where to get their mobile service from or replace their SIM whenever they like.

Meanwhile, the unlocked model is confirmed to run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and OS updates will arrive within 15 days, after the update rolls out to Google's Nexus devices.

HTC One A9 can now be preordered from its website at a special price of $399 for a limited time only, PC Mag reported. Its global release will be on the first week of November.

However, only the 32 GB variety will be sold in the United States.
