Recent rumors have emerged that New York Knicks president of basketball operations Phil Jackson is targeting free agent point guard Jimmer Fredette to take the team's 15th and final roster spot.

Fansided reported that the 2011 tenth overall draft pick was recently released by the San Antonio Spurs, which makes him officially jobless as of the moment.

According to the report, aside from the Knicks, the other teams that are allegedly interested in signing the 6-foot-2 former National College Player of the Year are the Atlanta Hawks, Utah Jazz, and Phoenix Suns while he also has a lot of offers to play overseas, particularly in Europe.

Jackson is said to be actually not that "desperate" to add another point guard to his stack of Jose Calderon, Langston Galloway, and Jerian Grant, but he and head coach Derek Fisher find Fredette's playmaking and outside shooting quite useful in the triangle offense just in case.

However, a New York Post article said that the former BYU standout's notoriously known poor "defense has caused him to fail to stick with a team," which is something that Jackson and Fisher would surely consider before they make the decision to hire him.

Still, Fredette's accurate shooting, particularly from the three-point range, is something that would certainly attract the attention of a team that relies on floor spacing to be effective.

In college, the 2011 NCAA Division I scoring leader made 39.4 percent of his three-point shots while he fired 38.1 percent from downtown in his four years as a pro.

Playing for the Sacramento Kings in 2013-2014, Fredette shot 49.3 percent from beyond the arc, higher than the 47.5 percent overall field goal shooting he registered for that season.
