Twitter adds polls - a refreshing way to engage and interact on the hip social networking site and solicit opinions on things that matter such as your dog's name.
"For poll creators, it's a new way to engage with Twitter's massive audience and understand exactly what people think. For those participating, it's a very easy way to make your voice heard," wrote Twitter on its blog.
Making a poll is simple and fun. On the tweet bar, click the poll icon, key in a question, and finally fill in the choice boxes.
The survey appears to one's followers like any other regular Tweet so followers can vote or share.
Intended to be short and sweet, polls are limited to two choices and will remain live for 24 hours. When the clock runs out, everyone who took part will get a notice about the final result.
Just like election ballots, poll votes are casted privately so the creator will have no idea who answered which.
The new feature will make it much easier for Tweeters to tally things, and coincidentally increase engagement with users.
Questions can be as cute as whether to ask a girl out to as serious as opinions in the upcoming election's results, sadly the choices are binary - not enough to enumerate all candidates in the United States presidential elections.
Some users had been beta testing the product - and by Oct. 21. - there were multiple polls running, many of which are about Twitter itself, USA Today reported.
In the past, the social network offered a few ways to participate in polls - Tweeting questions and tracking replies, tallying hashtag votes, or asking followers to favorite or Retweet to vote.
