Another museum in China is now following suit in designing cute souvenirs after the Palace Museum sold beaded earbuds and other items like hotcakes.

Not willing to lag behind, the Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, announced that it created a series of cookies based on its mysterious bronze masks collection. The masks, which were known to come from the ancient State of Shu, date back around 3,000 years ago.

Zhu Dandan, a museum staffer, said that when he was casually baking at his home last year, he was able to bake cookies that imitated the shape of the museum's ancient masks.

"Then I posted the pictures of these cookies on Weibo and they became quite popular among friends online," Zhu said.

"I talked to the museum and we decided to make this part of our promotion."

Zhu added that they got the patent for the souvenirs in May this year and officially started producing the cookies.

Since July, the biscuits were already on pre-sale and came in four different flavors such as original, matcha, strawberry and chocolate.

To craft more designs, the museum has partnered with a famous local food enterprise. It will also make pastries and chocolates in shapes of a bird, sun gear and a jade wall.

The Sanxingdui Museum is also set to open an online store soon.
