Over the weekend, "Interstellar" is expected to earn an estimated $55 million more, while its rival family film "Big Hero 6," the first ever Disney-Marvel film, is said to amass $60 million.

Both "Interstellar" and "Big Hero 6" cost $165 million to produce.

"Interstellar's" domestic distributor Paramount Pictures released in 249 theaters including 42 IMAX cinemas at mid-week. According to its director Christopher Nolan, the locations underscore film projection providing the finest visual experience for his film.

Along with the promising box-office success of the film are the reviews describing Nolan's film as ambitious and stunning. On the other hand, it was criticized for lacking emotion.

Both ambitious and imaginative, "Interstellar" is packed with visual effects, philosophical ideas and theoretical physics from its director and his co-screenwriter, his brother Jonathan Nolan, according to Los Angeles Daily News.

Unlike the overly complex mythologies typically featured in superhero films, Nolan's film interestingly shows characters discussing actual science.

The 44-year-old Oscar-nominated British director is known for his "Dark Knight" trilogy, and "Interstellar" is considered his most ambitious feature film to date.

Although it is a sci-fi film, "Interstellar" is criticized for putting too much emphasis on the science with an attempt to keep a balance between theoretical physics and the limits of reality.

The film impresses the audience with stunning sci-fi adventure, but it fails to efficiently incorporate human emotion, according to Mirror.

Among the parts of the scene said to insufficiently represent human emotion are the decision of McConaughey's character Cooper to leave his family behind for his journey and the way Cooper and his children exchanged messages.

Joining McConaughey and Hathaway in "Interstellar" cast are Jessica Chastain, Wes Bentley, Matt Damon, Mackenzie Foy, Elyes, Gabel, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Tophel Grace, Ellen Burstyn and John Lithgow.
