Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso were in talks on Wednesday about the diplomatic relations between China and Peru.
Xi recommended that the two countries strengthen the high-level communication between their governments, legislative organizations and parties, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The Chinese head of state put emphasis on the cultivation of a bilateral free trade area, as well as expanding collaboration in trade, mining, energy, agriculture and infrastructure.
Xi mentioned these goals in light of the announcement he and the Peruvian president made last year about elevating their bilateral relations to an all-encompassing strategic partnership. Humala was visiting China when they made the announcement.
During Wednesday's discussions, Xi said that China will actively assist in the construction of a railway that will extend from the Peruvian Pacific coast to the Brazilian Atlantic coast.
The Chinese leader also pledged his constructive involvement in the forthcoming Climate Change Conference initiated by the United Nations which will be held in Peru's capital Lima in December.
Humala, meanwhile, extended his congratulations to China for its successful hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting.
The Peruvian leader said that he will cooperate with China in establishing the Asia-Pacific free trade area, saying his government is willing to work with the Chinese government on Peru's infrastructure and mining as well as its explorations in gas and hydroelectric power.
Humala also voiced out his willingness to improve China-Peru exchanges in culture, education and training.
At the end of the discussions, the two leaders attended the signing of a number of cooperation agreements between the countries they lead.
