Snapchat is no longer private the way it used to be as its updated Terms of Service removes its famous "delete is our default" clause. Angry users have taken to social media, spreading the awareness about Snapchat's scary new privacy policy.
Snapchat's latest update, which was released on Wednesday, came with an undelete Terms of Service, It encompasses that the messaging app can now reproduce, modify and republish your photos, which will not be deleted after uploaded to Snapchat's servers, Market Watch reported.
Snapchat's latest development was first highlighted in a tweet by former White House Associate Director of Public Engagement, Kal Penn, after which users quickly spread the word. This completely changes the scope at which the social networking app used to operate on users' photos, in terms of privacy.
The new Terms of Service implies that the app can now control who and who cannot see your contents without pinpointing a particular category of contents. If it does include snaps, which are in fact private messages, then this alone is shocking enough for Snapchat users to rethink what they are signing up for.
One support page on their website states that the private messages will be automatically deleted, but it is not explicitly mentioned anywhere in Snapchat's new Terms of Service. Snapchat's former privacy policy contained "delete id our default," but details of the new privacy policy aren't clear yet. Keep in mind, you automatically say yes to the new Terms of Service when you download the new version of the app.
Furthermore, Snapchat servers will now also hold the records of Replay, Mystory and Snapcash features. Users on twitter and other social media platforms have taken up the debate, who think that Snapchat's new Terms of Service are "scary" and makes them wish to delete their accounts.
