Dallas Mavericks Point Guard Deron Williams checked out of his first game with the Mavericks in a game against the Suns due to a knee contusion. This was not seen as an issue as the Mavs had led against the Suns by over 20 points and didn't necessarily need his services. Still, many expected him to be ready to go against his next game against DeAndre Jordan and the Los Angeles Clippers.

As it turns out, Williams's knee contusion was far worse than expected.

According to ESPN, the Dallas native's injury had been upgraded to a knee sprain, with no set timetable to return.

For most players, this would generally not be conceived as an issue. However, with a player like Deron Williams consistently battling injury problems, this could be worrisome.

After leaving the Jazz in an alleged confrontation with longtime coach Jerry Sloan (which ended with Sloan retiring), William's played several seasons with the Nets. Since his stint with the Nets, he hasn't been the same, averaging 13.3 PPG and 6.6 APG in his final season with the Nets whilst battling a plethora of injuries.

Many hoped that this season could prove to be one in which Deron could bounce back. After all, a new change of scenery in a comfortable setting with one of the best power forwards to ever play in the league should be the kind of change he'd need. However, his injury history is worrisome. Added with the injuries of Chandler Parsons and Wesley Matthews, the Mavericks could be in a heap of trouble at the start of the season.

Let's hope they can turn things around.
