A Chinese Embassy senior official said that 13 out of the 19 agreements signed with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's visit to China related to the energy sector will be completed by 2017, the Daily Times reported.
According to the official, the agreements clearly showed a transparent goal of participating in Pakistan's socio-economic development, mainly in solving the country's energy crisis.
The official added that the agreements are guaranteed to be implemented within the stipulated time frame, and the documents signed in the presence of Sharif and Li Keqiang were consistent with the Pakistani laws and regulations and the international code of business.
As reflected by the agreements, the official noted that there is a "firm resolve and commitment of the Chinese leadership to further strengthen the Sino-Pak economic ties that will inject new impetus in their bilateral and multilateral strategic cooperative partnership."
Among the projects included in the agreements are a 100MW wind power, a 1320MW coal-fired power in Sahiwal, 6,500,000 metric tonnes of coal mining in Block-2 of Thar, an 870MW Suki Kinari Hydropower, a Quaid-e Azam Solar Park, and an optic fiber cable in China and Pakistan.
As the official explained, China and Pakistan are "iron brothers," a popular phrase "commonly used by Chinese people only for Pakistan." The relationship between the two countries is "based on principles of win-win situation, equity, mutual respect and trust."
With his "highly productive and fruitful" visit to China, Sharif had "the opportunity to attend dialogue on regional activities held during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit," the official added.
Led by President Xi Jinping, the 22nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting involved a joint discussion among leaders of APEC countries with the theme "Co-build the Future-oriented Asia-Pacific Partnership" and broad consensus on regional economic cooperation, according to The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China.
The APEC meet was held on Nov. 11 at the Yanqi Lake International Convention Center in Huairou District, Beijing.
