Redspawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts or EA have reportedly set a Christmas 2016 release date for the Titanfall sequel, presumably taking the name Titanfall 2, a new report said. And it appears that version 2.0 of the multiplayer shooter is morphing into a multi-platform flavor geared for mobile, online and console players.
Call of Duty creator Redspawn is reportedly partnering with South Korea-based mobile game provider Nexon and Particle City to produce Titanfall 2 that will expectedly delight PC, PS4 and Xbox gamers. And there are strong indications that the next Titanfall title will also hit mobile devices, meaning Android and iOS users will also get involve in the upcoming shootout.
"We are closely collaborating to create all-new standalone games with original gameplay experiences that expand the Titanfall universe to players everywhere," Particle City co-founder Vince Zampella was reported by Metro as saying.
Zampella is also a Redspawn co-founder.
Nexon's involvement in the Titanfall 2 project is crucial to the transition of the title as free-to-play, Zampella said, adding that "Nexon's unrivalled publishing network and free-to-play expertise will allow Titanfall to reach new global audiences."
Barring any glitches, Particle City is gunning to release the free-to-play Titanfall anytime in 2016 or prior to the rollout of the multi-platform version, the report added.
It is understood that the collaborative work on Titanfall 2 is good to go as Engadget noted on its report that Redspawn and Nexon are current business partners. While Titanfall 2 is the working name of the project, it is likely that the game title on release date will be labelled differently, the report added.
As for the Titanfall 2 actual release date, Metro said on its report that the game is fast shaping up as EA's follow up to the Star Wars: Battlefront and Mass Effect: Andromeda, positioning the next Titanfall for a Christmas 2016 market debut.
