Noting the success of the event last year, 250 children's book publishing companies from 23 countries around the world took part in the 2014 Shanghai International Children's Book Fair (CCBF) which started on Nov. 20.

The book fair, which will run until Nov. 22, Saturday, focused more on reaching an international and specialized concept that will provide the children's book publishing industry with a one-step insight, involving distribution, rights, modern electronic facilities, sales and professional services.

The first two days of the fair showcased children's books and the last day will be for books of all ages, the book fair announced on their official website.

Book stands that were separated into four sections occupied the 12,000-square-meter area. Over 50,000 new books were acquired from foreign countries, mainland China and other Chinese regions like Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Books for ages 0 to 16 years old, along with comic books, audiovisual materials and digital products were also sold at the book fair.

In addition, a 5,000-square-meter public section for popular books held cultural activities such as meetings for writers, interactive experiences and stage performances.

Ren Huiling, deputy director of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) of the People's Republic of China said that with the help of their organization's efforts, the 2014 CCBF went global as foreign books were included in the fair.

While many local and international publication companies presented their new media products, the first 4D children's book was introduced at the 2014 CCBF. The one-of-a-kind book allows children to experience a four-dimensional world with their own paintings and can be hooked to their mobile devices or computers.
