"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 1" dominates the Thanksgiving weekend as it rockets to the top of the box office charts in over 85 territories after banking $67 million in its second week.
During the two weeks after initial release, the latest "Hunger Games" movie earned about $480 million in international sales, comprising an $8.2-million haul from the United Kingdom, $7 million from Germany, $5 million from Australia and $4.4 million from Mexico.
Just behind a few million bucks at second place in the box office charts over the past weekend is Christopher Nolan's futuristic adventure "Interstellar" starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway which passed the $500-million mark since its release.
In China, Nolan's science-fiction epic remained on top for three consecutive weeks after earning $18.1 million in its third week, which brings its overall total sales in the People's Republic of China to $106 million.
In North America, Katniss Everdeen and the rest of the Tributes earned over $254 million two weeks after the film's initial release.
Because of this, DreamWorks Animation's "Madagascar" spinoff "The Penguins of Madagascar" and the sequel for the "Horrible Bosses" did not have much left to chew on their "Turkey Day" debut after earning, respectively, $36 million and $23 million over the five-day holiday.
Despite being at the top, the first installment of "Mockingjay" did not gross as much as past "Hunger Games" movies, as this year's Thanksgiving weekend box office sales have declined in overall sales by 20 percent.
This data, according to Variety, was reported in comparison to last year's "Catching Fire" that took $110 million in total gross sales during the holiday.
