The new Android update is unavailable for non - Nexus devices, but that has not deterred the smartphone manufacturers like Sony, Samsung and Motorola.

OTA notifications will be sent to the owners of the devices with the support to the update. Most of 2015 editions of the models mentioned will receive the possibility to update, as well to some other 2014 models.

The Google Nexus 6 is already included the update because it is a Nexus device. Notwithstanding, the wait list upon the Android 6.0 Marshmallow keeps growing because the timeframe for this release on some smartphones is not yet released or incompatible.
Motorola has already started the release of Android 6.0 upgrade to selected group of users for testing on the Moto X Pure Edition (2015), according to International Business Times. The company is currently testing the firmware which will be followed by a soak test and rolled out for the general users.
It is hard to deduce, but some phones are not going to be able to download the Android operating system. For example, the 2014 Moto E, the 2013 Moto G and Moto X falls within this category.
Motorola has also announced that certain existing features like Moto Migrate, Moto Assist, or Google Chrome extension support via Motorola connect, will be replaced after the Android 6.0 update by auto data backup and Do Not Disturb.
The update is reportedly supposed to consume 500 MB of disk space.
