The first season of Chinese TV drama "All Quiet in Peking" earned a record-breaking 400 million cumulative views upon its conclusion on Sunday, making it China's top-rated TV show.
Since it was first aired on Oct. 6 until Nov. 30, the hit TV series from DMG garnered an accumulated 400 million total views over video-on-demand websites such as Letv, iQIYI, Sohu and Thunder; and was widely talked about over China's microblogging site Sina Weibo and WeChat.
This, according to DMG Entertainment, was the key for "All Quiet in Peking" to earn the whopping 9.4 out of 10 ratings in China's largest film-sharing and comment website Dou Ban.
The historical drama is based on an adaptation of a Liu Heping novel set during the tumultuous Chinese civil war in 1948.
The TV series was co-directed by Kong Sheng and Li Xue and stars top caliber artists including Liu Ye, Chen Baoguo and Berlin International Film Festival Silver Bear awardee Liao Fan.
Though the Beijing-based entertainment production company has been producing hit shows in the past, "All Quiet in Peking" is unique because of its political nature which is rarely allowed to be viewed in the country due to some sensitive political issues that might be discussed in the show.
DMG Entertainment CEO Dan Mintz vowed to provide more TV shows that would be as "critically and commercially successful as 'All Quiet in Peking.'"
"Television drama production is a huge growth area in China and DMG has been producing hit shows, in addition to our feature films," he stated.
Aside from TV production, DMG has been known to have remarkable success in the film industry as it has co-produced Hollywood blockbuster hits such as "Iron Man 3" and "Transcendence."
