China is set to hold a series of activities commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sun Yat-sen in 2016. This is according to a decision made at the plenum of the country's top political advisory body.

Sun has also been known for his contributions to national independence, social advancement and the contentment of the members of the society. He is the founder of the Kuomintang that pioneered the 1911 revolution and ended the imperial rule of the Qing Dynasty.

The events are aimed at carrying on Sun's patriotic thoughts and revolutionary and innovative spirits.

The body also looks forward to consolidate the unity among the Chinese and the patriotic united front through the revelry.

The goals of the commemoration also include the safeguarding of cross-Strait peace and the joint advancement of China's peaceful unification, the statement added.

Through Sun's birth anniversary, the body also hopes for the promotion of national goals, and the fostering of the Chinese cohesion is also expected.

The anniversary is celebrated every 12th of November.

A Global Times report quoted academician Lu Chuncheng, citing that the upcoming series of events "could be equivalent to those that marked the 70th anniversary of the victory of Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression."

For many other analysts, recognizing Sun's legacy is a powerful political symbol that binds China.
