The Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment Co. Limited (HNCA) and European cargo firm Cargolux Airlines International entered a joint venture to build China's Henan Province capital Zhengzhou into the country's cargo center.
According to a Henan Province government's document, the joint venture is slated to be launched next year and is planning to be an international air cargo provider with a cargo hub in Zhengzhou.
The joint venture is expected to add more cargo routes that link Chicago and Los Angeles with China's Zhengzhou.
The HNCA is a state-owned company and has a registered capital worth $979 million. It recently acquired in April 35 percent worth of shares in Cargolux, which is the largest cargo airline in Europe.
The European cargo airline launched in June a Zhengzhou-to-Luxembourg cargo route. By the end of November, the route observed more than 10,000 tons in cargo volume. Cargolux's cargo volumes through the Zhengzhou airport also forecast to reach 200,000 tons by the end of 2016.
The Luxembourg-based all-cargo airline currently has a vast international network with over 80 branches in 55 different regions.
Meanwhile, the Zhenghou Xinzheng International Airport has 22 overseas routes linking the Chinese city with the U.S., Australia, Europe and Asia.
The Henan Province capital was approved by the State Council in 2013 as China's first-ever air economic zone.
