"The Bourne Ultimatum" actor and martial artist Scott Adkins has joined the growing entourage of Scott Derrickson's "Doctor Strange."
Sources told The Wrap that Adkins was going to be part of Derrickson's upcoming Marvel Comics film "Doctor Strange." According to the publication, Adkins' role had not yet been revealed; however, sources suggested that he would have a number of key action scenes featuring hand-to-hand combat.
Adkins had also been a famous fan choice to play Danny Rand, also known as Iron Fist, in an upcoming Netflix series, according to Coming Soon. However, the publication said that it was quite likely that he was playing another character.
Based from the fact the Adkins knows martial arts and sources have revealed that the actor would be featuring in combat scenes, it can be deduced that Adkins could play the role of Wong, Stephen Strange's manservant and closest ally. In the comics, Wong has helped Strange in several key battles with his combat skills set, in addition to his knowledge of magic.
Aside from Paul Greengrass' action film "The Bourne Ultimatum," Adkins is also known for his roles in Isaac Florentine's action crime drama "Undisputed 3: Redemption," Simon West's action thriller "Expendables 2," and Kathryn Bigelow's historical thriller "Zero Dark Thirty."
Along with his role in Derrickson's "Doctor Strange," Adkins is also set to reprise his role as Yuri Boyka in David White's action film "Boyka: Undisputed IV." The actor will also be part of William Kaufman's war action "Jarhead 3: The Siege," Louis Leterrier's comedy "The Brothers Grimsby," Ariel Vromen's action drama "Criminal," and James Nunn's "Eliminators."
Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" will not be an origin story, but will still center on the exploits of Strange, a neurosurgeon who loses his hands' fine motor skills after an accident. He meets the Ancient One, a master of magic who trains him to become the Sorcerer Supreme and defend the world from evil.
"Doctor Strange" stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Rachel McAdams as the Night Nurse, Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme.
"Hannibal" actor Mads Mikkelsen, who was reported to play the role of Mephisto or Dormammu, might not appear in Derrickson's forthcoming film. "Transparent" actress Amy Landecker has also joined the cast; however, her role is being kept under wraps for the time being.
Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Nov. 4, 2016.
