Is Floyd Mayweather Jr. bipolar? He did it first to nemesis Manny Pacquiao and now he's doing it to dethroned UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. That's first posting a meme about the other fighter's defeat then become friendlier.
On Tuesday, he defended Rousey against bashers following her unexpected loss to Holly Holm on Saturday. "It's just like boxing, you win some, you lose some ... A true champion can take a loss and bounce back," FightHype quotes the retired boxer.
He made the comment a day after rapper 50 Cent revealed that Mayweather allegedly asked him to post a meme about Ronda's loss, showing her unconscious on the octagon ring. Mayweather denied on Tuesday also that he asked 50 Cent to post a meme on Instagram on his behalf.
"That's not true at all ... I haven't really spoke to anyone about the Ronda Rousey situation, just to set the record straight, Mashable quotes Mayweather. He says it is not cool how many people are trolling Ronda on social media. As a celebrity, the boxer says he has learned that "People will love you on Friday and the Sunday morning, it's nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you."
Although he has not experienced loss in his professional career, Mayweather says he has also experience loss in his personal life, such as a loved one. He believes Ronda will bounce back and "make some noise again in mixed martial arts," which could perhaps signal a resumption of their word war.
When Pacquiao lost to Juan Manual Marquez in 2013, Mayweather also taunted him with a meme, but when they met at a basketball game in the US by chance, they talked which led to the "Fight of the Century" in May. However, after he won the match, Mayweather resumed his trash talk against the Filipino champ.
Holm likewise showed she could be magnanimous in victory despite Ronda previously calling her "a fake humility bitch" on an Instagram post. On Monday, Holm told TMZ she has a lot of respect for Ronda. Commenting on the social media bashing that Ronda suffered, Holm says, "I think people can be pretty brutal ... And when you're in the spot shes in, there are just people that are going to jump ship and I don't ever wish for that."
Meanwhile, Ronda returned to LA on Tuesday but hid her face behind a travel pillow, reports the New York Post. Because of injuries she sustained from her match against Holm, Ronda had plastic surgery on her face.
