Following its earlier claim that it is the original YTS/YIFY team, YTS.ag came clean and admitted that "we are a new team/releasing group continuing the YTS/YIFY project. The new YTS also revealed that dropping the YTS or YIFY label is under serious consideration.
The planned rebranding, the group said, is for the purpose of giving YTS.ag a distinct identity but similar from the previous YTS "so people would know what to expect from our releases." The name change will not affect the familiar YIFY movie torrent service as YTS.ag assured that its contents will continue to come in relatively small size, no larger than 2GB for most titles, with the same variants - 720p, 1080p and 3D downloads.
The group, however, noted that there will be significant improvements in the quality of movie torrents available for download. "The audio on our new releases is improved (now encoding to 128kbps comparing to 96kbps on old ones), plus we can safely say that even the video is a bit better," William of YTS.ag said in a recently published blog post.
William also addressed the earlier reports that say YTS.ag is a fake website and not in any way connected to the original YTS.YIFY team. The blog author clarified that the new YTS is "continuing the YTS/YIFY project," and conceded that the earlier claims of connection to the old YTS was a mistake "we are willing to correct.
"YTS.ag is the real YTS domain for a new YIFY group," William said.
YTS.ag is optimistic that the name change will erase the wrong impression that it was part of the same group responsible for the hostile takeover of EZTV. The business it has with EZTV is limited to advertising, the group added.
Dropping the YIFY label should also convince key torrent players - The Pirate Bay and Kickass Torrents among them - to permit the upload of YTS.ag releases on their sites, the statement further explained.
Likewise, William said that torrent fans using the YTS.ag service are assured of protected privacy and robust security. "We have no intention of collecting users' personal information at all for any purpose," he added.
"We can guarantee you 100% that it is safe to download both previous YIFY releases and new releases from YTS.ag. The torrents are malware-free and the website has no ads at all," the new YTS said on its statement.
