E-commerce company Amazon and retail giant Best Buy have noted that the first preorders for the Samsung VR headset have been filled to the brim while Jeff Gattis from the HTC Vive team has left for augmented reality company Magic Leap.

Priced at an affordable $99, the first virtual reality device geared for the mass market has been selling well through Amazon and Best Buy after only a day since release.

Amazon and Best Buy were tasked to be the Samsung VR's primary outlets, and international demand for the mobile, virtual reality headset has led to the device being initially sold out for the meantime, according to Tech Times.

The Samsung VR headset, which is created with the help of Facebook's Oculus technology, is poised to offer even people who do not like to play games an enjoyable, immersive experience through virtual reality.

While the Samsung VR has no close competition this year as the device has become the first to introduce virtual and augmented reality to the general public, other companies would have their own offerings next year.

In 2016, social media company Facebook will be releasing the Oculus VR while HTC will unveil the HTC Vive. Both of the virtual reality devices are slated for a first quarter release in 2016.

Likewise, HTC's Jeff Gattis has moved to augmented reality company Magic Leap following a year of working for HTC, specifically for the development of the HTC Vive according to Android Headline. The former executive director of global marketing for HTC has now become head of the product marketing team over at Magic Leap.

While the HTC Vive is heavily marketed toward the gaming community, Magic Leap is planning to create an augmented reality that various groups of people would find interesting and useful.

Even though Magic Leap has yet to announce any specific details about an AR product, Gattis has remarked that the developments at Magic Leap have shown just how prepared the augmented reality technology would be for commercial consumption.

In addition, Gattis believes that Magic Leap's technology could actually have a global impact beyond gaming.
