On Dec. 23, Tuesday, 45 Philadelphian taxi companies have filed a lawsuit against Uber, an app-based taxi enterprise. These accusing companies are waging unfair and unethical competition against the Uber owners who, according to them, should follow state regulations. Checker Cab Philadelphia, the lead litigant, together with the other operators said that Uber is racketeering.
Uber is a ride application, which many people love to hate. There have been complaints from a lot of customers about drivers who are refusing to have dog passengers for blind riders. Even Senator Franken has raised a question about their attitude towards privacy as well as its tendency to become "stalkers". Through their operational years, it has already faced rape allegations. In fact, in Portland, Uber has been suspended for 3 months because of other major complaints.
Travis Kalanick, Uber's CEO, has been charged in South Korea for a violation against the country's laws on rental cars operating like taxi cabs. With the lawsuit that the company is currently dealing, Philadelphian taxi operators have branded Uber with harsh languages as "bootleggers", Marketwatch reported.
In the complaint, strong words were thrown at Uber. According to it, "Not since bootlegging has a criminal enterprise as Uber been opened- so brazen and welcoming to millions of earnings while operating in a blatant violation of the state and the federal law."
The plaintiffs headed by Checker Cab Philadelphia sued Uber including Travis Kalanick- the CEO, Google Ventures- has $258 million dollar investment in the company, and the Delaware entities- tied to Uber.
