"American Idol Season 11" winner Phillip Phillips announced on Dec. 26, Friday on social media his engagement with girlfriend Hannah Blackwell.
Phillips posted on social media sites Twitter and Facebook. Phillips uploaded a photo of himself and Blackwell, showing the engagement ring. The "American Idol" winner added a caption to the photo saying, "We're engaged yall!."
Blackwell also posted the news of their engagement on photo sharing website Instagram. She posted a photo of her engagement ring hand beside a handmade Christmas Bauble with a photo of her as a toddler on a Christmas tree. The caption said that she was "overwhelmed with happiness."
Phillips, 24 years old, met Blackwell while volunteering at the same women's shelter in 2009, according to E!. The two began dating before Phillips became famous as a musician on American Idol.
The musician recently released in May his second studio album "Behind the Lights" and went on a summer tour with Of A Revolution (O.A.R.).
After winning American Idol in 2012, he lauded Blackwell for supporting him throughout. Phillips said that he loves Blackwell "to death."
In an interview with the Myfm 104.3 radio station, Georgia-born singer shared his story about his first kiss with Blackwell. Phillips said that he asked his girlfriend "Would you mind if I kissed you?" and that Blackwell responded yes.
A source close to the couple told The Hollywood Reporter that Phillips proposed in their new home in Georgia. Phillips told Blackwell to meet him at the house, where he was "down on one knee" when Blackwell arrived.
