Chinese celebrity culture has been significantly impacted by a spate of drug and sex work-related arrests in 2014, and the Beijing Trade Association for Performances announced on Dec. 19 that it would not be associated with any guilty stars.

The latest drug scandal occurred on Thursday evening, when popular singer Yin Xiangjie was detained by police in relation to drug use and possession.

Prior to Yin's arrest, the son of global film celebrity Jackie Chan, Jaycee Chan, was formally indicted by Beijing prosecutors for drug charges on Dec. 22 after being held in police custody for a four-month period.

Later that week, television host Wang Jing tested positive for illicit drug use after she was arrested on Christmas Eve with a man who she has been accused of sheltering at her home. Wang was the first female celebrity to be apprehended in 2014.

Yin, who is 45 years old, was captured by the authorities at his residence in a Chaoyang district residential estate. According to police representatives, who spoke with reporters for the first time in regard to the case on Saturday, the singer confessed to possessing and consuming illegal drugs after being caught with over 10 grams of drugs, including crystal methamphetamine, commonly known by its street name "ice."

As of Monday, Yin remains in a police detention facility.

Yin is originally from China's capital city and first attained fame with the 1993 pop hit "Boat Tracker's Love," which was a collaboration with female singer YuWenhua.
