OnePlus is currently in the spotlight after it was discovered that its USB Type-C cable can damage other devices as it draws too much power. The company said that it is already working to remedy the issue and has offered to refund customers who purchased the defective accessory.

OnePlus added that the problem arises when its USB Type-C cables are used on third-party devices. The company added that the cables work perfectly fine when used with its smartphones.

The refund will only apply to consumers who purchased OnePlus USB Type-C cables separately with the intention to use it with other devices apart from the ones manufactured by OnePlus.

In a statement obtained by The Verge, OnePlus said, "If you're charging or transferring data to or from the OnePlus 2, you should have no problems using the cable that shipped with your OnePlus 2 or the cables or adapters you bought separately on OnePlus.net."

Among the most affected devices are the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6p. Tech experts said that in order to avoid damage on devices, consumers need to double check whether the peripherals they are trying to purchase are compatible with the device they want to use with it.

OnePlus is giving consumers until Dec. 31 to apply for the refund.
