After launching the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 smartphone in 2014, Chinese giant Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. recently unveiled the new successor, the Huawei Mate 8.

Like its predecessor, the Huawei Mate 8 handset sports the same 6.0-inch display screen with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, but comes with Google's latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system pre-installed.

In terms of the specs, here's how the Huawei Mate 8 will go up against its predecessor.

Huawei Ascend Mate 7

The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 weighs about 185 grams and measures 157 x 81 x 7.9 mm in dimensions, according to Huawei. The phone sports an IPS LCD screen that's protected by the Gorilla Glass 3. It came with the Android KitKat version OS pre-installed along with the Emotion UI 3.1 on top.

Under the hood, the Ascend Mate 7 packs the company's HiSilicon Kirin 925 processor, along with the Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7, and the Mali-T628 graphics processing unit.

In addition, the handset has 2GB/3GB of RAM, up to 16GB/32GB of internal memory storage, a massive 4,100 mAh battery, a 13MP rear-facing camera, and a 5MP front-facing camera. Other specs include a fingerprint sensor, support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, FM Radio and NFC connectivity.

Huawei Mate 8

The Huawei Mate 8, on the other hand, measures 157.1 x 80.6 x 7.9 mm in dimensions, and also weighs about 185 grams, according to GSM Arena. It sports an IPS-NEO LCD screen that's protected by the latest Gorilla Glass 4.

The Mate 8 runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS along with the latest Emotion UI 4.0. The phone has a powerful 16 megapixel camera on the back and an 8 megapixel shooter on the front. Inside, the Mate 8 packs the company's latest HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor, along with the Quad-core 2.3 GHz Cortex-A72 + quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex A53, and Mali-T880 MP4 graphics processing unit.

The handset comes with 3GB/4GB RAM, up to 32GB/64GB or 128GB of built-in memory, and a whopping 4,000 mAh battery that can charge up to 37 percent in just 30 minutes. In addition, the phone can last up to 30 percent longer in comparison with its predecessor, Techno Buffalo reported. Other specs for the Mate 8 include a fingerprint scanner as well, support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, FM Radio and NFC connectivity as well.

As of this time, the Huawei Mate 8 is expected to launch in China sometime by early next year, with a price tag of $469. It is also expected to make an appearance during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 in January.
