Beijing's Yanqi Island, which was the venue for the APEC 2014 meetings, became an official tourist spot on Thursday as it opened to the public. Major overhauls done in 2013 have made the site worthy of becoming a tourist spot.

Yanqi Island was the site where the Chinese and foreign top leaders met during the Nov. 2014 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and it can now be treated as a budding tourist spot as well.

The islet on the scenic Yanqi Lake is now a must-see sight in Beijing. Tourists in particular can enjoy Yanqi's around-the-islet boat trips. These relaxing trips can provide interested tourists a view of the whole APEC venue.

According to the lake's operators, tourists can see more than the convention center where the APEC meetings were held. The surrounding gardens also offer a scenic view.

In the future, the islet would also have some VIP villas and the Yanqi Pagoda to provide pleasure for tourists.

The islet is open daily from Wednesday to Sunday. Due to the islet's space, however, and the desire to provide tourists with a great and comfortable experience, the daily number of tourists is capped at 400. Interested tourists can buy their tickets in advance via phone or through the lake's website.

The lake becoming a tourist spot is unsurprising. The lake can found in the suburban Huairou District in northeastern Beijing. Major renovations and overhaul had been carried out since 2013, when it was selected as the host venue for the APEC meetings.

The APEC meetings included talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama, among others.
