Tech giant Google is taking a shot at the market currently dominated by Pinterest. The search giant recently rolled out a new feature on its search engine that allows users to easily save their searched images and then access it whenever they want. The new feature also allows Google users to save their searched images into the Collections tab.

According to Tech Crunch, the new feature is currently restricted to mobile users only and will be exclusive to users within the United States. Google said that the feature will be rolled out to all major browsers running on both the Android and iOS platforms.

Saving searched images will require users to log in to their Google Account. The new feature adds the Collections tab which is part of the tech giant's renewed focus on its social networking platform, Google+.

In a blog statement obtained by Digital Trends, Google software engineer Diego Accame said, "One you've starred a few images, you can keep them organized in folders: to add an image to a folder of similar item, tap the pencil shaped edit icon. Create a grouping such as 'haircuts for the winter' or 'snowman ideas' and your image will be added to a folder with similar ones."

Instead of directly competing with Facebook, Google+ is reconfiguring its interest towards online communities and sharing groups that cover a specific interest. Many tech analysts believe that Google+ is aiming less towards Facebook and more towards social services like Pinterest and Reddit.

The new Image Search collection feature is not currently tied to the collection of images that users make on Google+. However, there are certain indications that Google might integrate the two features together in the future.
