Every year, the Screen Actors Guild selects an esoteric list of TV and movie actors and films as nominees for its SAG awards. This year is not any different. Notable snubs among this year included skipping nominations for Michael Keaton in "Spotlight, Will Smith and Jennifer Lawrence.

The voting period for this year's SAG awards closed on Dec. 7. This would mean that a late opener in December would not be eligible for the award, which is traditionally known to be an indicator of the Oscar Awards show.

Lead actors in the motion picture categories include Brie Larson in "Room", Cate Blanchett in "Carol," Saoirse Ronan in "Brooklyn," Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Revenant," Johnny Depp in "Black Mass," Eddie Redmayne in "The Danish Girl" and Michael Fassbender in "Steve Jobs."

According to People Magazine, skipping deserving performances in "Hateful Eight" and Michael Keaton's more serious role in the "Spotlight" were clearly snubs. However, the Screen Actors Guild did have surprises. Helen Mirren was recognized in two roles, one in "Women in Gold" and "Trumbo."

The outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture nominee "Straight Outta Compton was another deserving surprise.

Hollywood analysts are not convinced that the Screen Actors Guild Award nominations will be adapted by Oscar Awards voters this year. Noteworthy appearances and critics say that the SAG has favored newer and smaller films in the industry.

MattDamon and the "Martian" have been snubbed in 2016. Similar deletions include two of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood - Jennifer Lawrence and Will Smith.

Smith presumably gave one of his best performances in the movie, "Concussions." "The Hateful Eight" was another snub, according to Variety.
