China and Kenya have agreed to strengthen their bilateral relations, as revealed in the announcement made after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Kenyan Foreign Secretary Amina Mohamed.
Wang was in Kenya as part of his official tour that would see him go across various African countries. The Chinese foreign minister convened with Mohamed to discuss plans on how to further intensify their nations' close relations.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Wang said: "We have agreed to make further progress in the comprehensive cooperative partnership between our two countries featuring equality, mutual trust, mutual benefit and win-win outcomes."
Aside from the usual bilateral relations, Wang has also expressed China's readiness to help the African nation in developing its rich natural and human resources to help boost its economy. Apart from that, both nations have also agreed to deepen their partnership in key areas including infrastructure development, industrial relocation, renewable energy, agricultural development, environment and ecology protection, technology transfer, and peace and security.
While in the meeting, the two foreign secretaries also signed an agreement to establish a bilateral steering committee, reported the Global Times.
This was not the first time China had made commitments to further support Kenya's road to developing itself as a nation. In a report by All Africa, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang went to the African country last year. During his visit, the Chinese leader and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta signed 17 bilateral memorandums that saw the two countries working very closely together in various areas. As such, it was important for Wang to make the country his first stop for the eight-day diplomatic visit.
Foreign Secretary Mohamed expressed delight and honor in making Kenya the first leg of Wang's tour. The visit would give her nation numerous opportunities to experience their nations' partnership and mutual trust as well as a great avenue to execute agreed cooperation programs.
Wang is also set to visit the African countries of Cameroon, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Equatorial Guinea.
