Woody Allen will direct and write his first series for Amazon Studios that will debut next year, according to SF Gate.

The untitled show will stream for half an hour and will last for a full season. The series will only be available in the United States, Britain and Germany through Amazon's Prime Instant Video service. The filmmaker issued a statement about the news.

"I don't know how I got into this. I have no ideas, and I'm not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this," Allen said referring to the Amazon Studios vice president.

Price expressed his excitement in working with Allen in an email. The president wrote that Allen's creation will translate beautifully on television especially with "more serialized story lines and openness to nuanced characterization."

The recent signing of Allen proved that Amazon is still out to expand its lineup of series.  Amazon bagged the award for Best Television Comedy in Golden Globes for its original series "Transparent." This is the first time that a streaming service was awarded with the title, New York Times reported.

Amazon first produced a television series in 2010 and continued to add more shows to compete with Netflix. Aside from "Transparent," which is a dark comedy about a transgender father, Amazon released the political comedy "Drama House" and the dramatic show "Mozart in the Jungle," according to The Wall Street Journal.

Price confirmed that Amazon can't wait to add more shows that the viewers would love. Another spokesperson from the company added that a number of pilot episodes will be released this week.

Amazon's recent business venture is also a way to attract more customers to its digital movies and television shows library and to its online store as well. Customers can rent or buy their preferred show or movie if they are not subscribers of Prime Instant Video service.

Subscribers can enjoy Allen's new show, which will be included in the digital library for $99 per year.
