Chinese smartphone group OnePlus is set to release a documentary exploring the company's "highs, lows and everything in between".

The film will center on the company's success with the OnePlus One, OnePlus Two and OnePlus X and will be released next year.

Addressing fans in a forum post, company co-founder Carl Pei said, "While we're proud of what we've been able to accomplish over the past two years, we realize that none of this would have been possible without you, our fans."

"This story is ours to celebrate together, so hopefully you'll be as pumped to see it as we are", he added.

Produced by Seventy Agency, OnePlus' teaser trailer features Pei talking about the rise of his company and the ongoing battle for a spot in the crowded smartphone market. The OnePlus leader says: "The people want a more authentic experience nowadays."

For the most part, reaction to the OnePlus documentary news has been positive. Over on YouTube, one user said: "Looks to be interesting, will give this a watch!" Another joked: "Do we need an invite to watch the movie?"

In the same forum post, it was also revealed that a limited edition version of the OnePlus X smartphone is on its way. To celebrate the company's second anniversary, OnePlus is launching the OnePlus X Champagne edition. This white and gold offering will roll out in Europe "very soon".

It has been a busy year for OnePlus to say the least, with the company just recently announcing that buyers can pick up a OnePlus Two without the need of an invite. Weekly OnePlus X sales are also on the way, beginning on Tuesday.

Admittedly, it will be interesting to see how the OnePlus documentary is received by the public when it arrives next year. The Chinese smartphone group will be hoping issues with the infamous invite system won't be enough to dissuade people from seeing the film.
